Another instant classic. Too many gems in here to count. Gorman Thomas sounds like a potential Project 3.18 hall of famer.

I'm sure someone has done this, as like I said it's not exactly a fresh take, but it would be fun to make an All-Star Team from only baseball's beefy, hirsute wall-bangers. Thomas in center field, and just a few names off the top of my head, Thurman Munson behind the plate, Rod Beck, Goose Gossage, and even modern-day hero Andrew Chafin also in the bullpen. Pete Rose manages and plays first base, of course.

The 3.18 HOF could include the primo bleacher creatures, insane executives, unknowing passersby, unwitting victims, quotable schmoes...

Too many gems to count but this goes straight to the Turn of Phrase Hall of Fame: “a correlation between Detroit’s hard times and Ruppert Jones’ hard helmet.” Much meaning and information, few words, and a dash of humor.

I go on other people's Substacks and call out great sentences, so I am honored to be inducted for this!

I was never in the bleachers but wanted to experience it in the old Yankee Stadium before it got knocked down & I must say with my lower back pain it was an awful experience. I couldn’t wait for the game to end so I could hobble outa there.

I think they were playing Boston which is always a big deal in NY. There were some interesting conversations but no rowdiness or fights.

That was my first/last time. Maybe parks should stop the beer sales even earlier like 5th inning.

Thank you Paul. 🍺⚾️

I sat in the bleachers at Wrigley Field once and when it was over I recall feeling distinctly broasted between the sun and the humidity. And thinking that you never really appreciate arm rests until they are not in the equation. I can't remember what happened beyond that, probably because of the sun stroke. Bleacher folk, whether they are bums, creatures, or just plain fans, are a hardy bunch, especially in outdoor ballparks.

Getting to sit in the bleachers at old Yankee Stadium is a great item on your punch list. Those seats had their special vibes and infamy, more than once!

I never made it to old Tiger Stadium - Comerica is a nice stadium, but I’m sure the bleachers are a lot tamer.
